A Study on the Concentration of Certain heavy Metals of Air Seoul

Abstract
An investigation on the heavy metals in the atmosphere at 6 sites of Seoul area was carried out April 9 to 30 and July 12 to August 14 in 1972.
The results were as follows:
1. The average concentration of total particulate matter were 347.8¥ìg/m©ø in commercial area, 200.0 in residential area and 214.3 in mixed area.
2. The average concentrations of particulate matter at each site were 386.8¥ìg/m©øat Sejongro, 348.6 at Myungdong, 298.7 at Euljiro 3-ga, 239.7 at Naezadong, 214.3 at Hannamdong and 160.3 at Whoihyundong.
3. The highest concentration of cadmium in the atmosphere was 0.027¥ìg/m©ø at Myungdong while the lowest was 0.003 at Hannamdong.
4. The highest concentration of lead in the atmosphere was 4.387¥ìg/m©ø at Myungdong.
5. The average concentrations of lead in the atmosphere were 3.109¥ìg/m©ø in commercial area, 1,556 in residential area, 1.21 in residential area and 1.15 mixed area.
6. The average concentrations of zinc in the atmosphere were 2.087¥ìg/m©ø in commercial area and 1.l5 in mixed area, making that of the all areas 1.64¥ìg/m©ø.
7. Both the highest and lowest concentrations of cooper were shown as 2.114 and 0.545¥ìg/m©øv for the samples collected at Myungdong.
8. The highest concentration of iron was 9.54 ¥ìg/m©ø at Myungdong while the lowest was 2.27 at Whoihyundong, and the former had the highest value and the latter the lowest in the average concentration.
9. The average concentrations of the iron in the atmosphere were 7.074¥ìg/m©ø in commercial area 3.68 in residential area and 3.59 in mixed area making that of the all area 5.12.10. The highest concentration of manganese was 0.568¥ìg/m©ø at Sejongro while the lowest was 0.008 at Naezadong.
11. The concentration of nickel for the sample collected at Sejongro was found to be highest of 0.164¥ìg/m©ø while lowest of 0.012 at Hannamdong. The average concentration for all areas was 0.047¥ìg/m©ø.
12. The average content of lead in particulate matter for all samples was 0.83% in all areas.
13. The concentration of particulate matter in Spring was higher than that of Summer and relatively higher in daytime than night.
